GUM INFECTION: SYMPTOMS, CAUSES & TREATMENT

GUM INFECTION

Healthy gums are dull, pale pink, firmly attached to the tooth, and do not bleed. On the other hand, inflammation of the gums (Gum infection) is manifested by swollen, reddened and easily bleeding gums. It is estimated that up to 80% of adults have at least mild Gum infection and are unaware of the inflammation because severe toothache only occurs in the advanced stage of Gum infection. Therefore, Gum infection is one of the most common gum diseases. If this process continues, gum infection or gum inflammation can turn into periodontitis (inflammation of the periodontium).

SIGNS OF GUM INFLAMMATION (GUM INFECTION)

Unfortunately, many people only notice Gum infection when it is already too late. The following applies: Healthy gums are characterized by a matt, pale pink color, are firmly attached to the tooth and do not bleed. The onset of Gum infection is usually noticeable through swollen, reddened and bleeding gums.

DEVELOPMENT AND CAUSE OF GUM INFECTION

Bacteria cause inflammation of the gums (Gum infection) and are often a reaction to poor oral hygiene. Above all, the care of the interdental spaces, for example, with dental floss or interdental brushes, is often neglected and thus leads to swollen, reddened and bleeding gums - Gum infection.

The gums love smooth surfaces, so they can cling to them tightly and healthily. Tartar and plaque, however, lead to a rough tooth surface on which bacteria can colonize more quickly. The bacteria from our oral flora, which attach particularly well to the tooth, can cause tooth decay and Gum infection.

WAYS TO TREAT GUM INFECTION

Minor Gum infection usually heals within a few days with good oral hygiene. However, if the symptoms or complaints persist for longer, the Gum infection treatment is done in one of our dental practices. Antibacterial mouthwashes and medicinal ointments can support the treatment depending on the situation. Above all, however, regular, at least six-monthly, professional tooth cleaning in one of our favorite dental practices helps ensure that no soft plaque or plaque remains even in the hard-to-reach areas.

At home, brush your teeth twice daily for at least two minutes. Concentrate and thoroughly clean all tooth surfaces with toothpaste. In the case of severely inflamed gums and great pain with associated bleeding gums, a soft brush is recommended at the beginning to prevent further injuries. For the spaces between the teeth, which make up approx. 30% of our tooth surface, dental floss and/or interdental brushes should be used once a day.
